Hiring a Relocation Consultant
Relocating to Mexico City, or any city, can be scary but is also very exciting if you have the right support and choose the correct consultant!

Before leaving your last destination, you should already be in contact with someone in Mexico City that is awaiting your arrival. You should have a phone conversation with them to help them get a better idea of what you will need. Things like how many members in your family there are, do you know which neighborhood you would like to live in, will you be driving, do you need help finding a school for your children, the ages of your children and what kind of school would you be interested in, are important to know.

Other things the relocator needs to know are: will you be looking for a house or an apartment, how many bedrooms do you need, do you want live in help, do you prefer having an outdoor space, do you have any pets, are there any security restrictions that your company has that she should know about and most importantly, your budget. Some other details that she should know is whether the company will be paying the rent directly or will your family be paying it. This will give her an idea of which property owners will accept your form of guarantee.

Before your arrival date, the relocation consultant should have prepared a schedule for you to see schools and places to live. She might also send you some listings of properties for you to have a look at to get a better idea of what is available for your requirements. You can begin the process by letting her know which properties look interesting to you and which ones do not. This way, once you arrive, you can be shown properties which should all be good options for you and your family, saving you and the relocator time. When you first arrive, if your company has not set up temporary housing, your relocation company should be able to do this for you.

Once you have touched down in CDMX, your relocation consultant should welcome you with some basic information about the city, your calendar for the week and some tips to help get you situated which could even include maps and restaurant recommendations. Your first week in Mexico might include visits to schools and apartment viewings.

This should ultimately lead you to find a perfect home for your family, a school for your children, and a neighborhood that suits your lifestyle. Your consultant will help you through all these processes and even be there to assist you set up your electricity; telephone and internet; to open a bank account; and much more.

After you have rented a place to live, and have gotten your children into school, your relocator should introduce you to the international community of your neighborhood, so that you can make friends and connections. She might also add you to a network where you can have access to important recommendations that will make it easier for you to navigate, such as doctors, the nearest hospitals, banks, Spanish lessons, Mommy and Me classes and much, much more.

Choosing a relocation company is key to making this process comfortable and as flawless as possible. Be sure she speaks your language, understands the relocation process and has the network to make you feel comfortable and right at home!
